The World Zionist Organization - This site includes much more than just information about the organization. This Month in Jewish History tells you any significant event in Jewish history that happened during the current month.  There are on-line free courses.  There is information of Jewish student organizations around the country. There is even a link to Student Programs in Israel, which includes many of the women's seminaries to which our girls go.  It gives you their requirements, American contacts, etc.

GENERAL SECULAR INFORMATION

Nassau Public Library System - gives you access to the entire Nassau system.  Check the catalog, find which branch has your book, its call number, and whether or not it's on the shelf.  As they say in the old country, Gevaldik!  In addition, it allows you access to its periodical databases.  You must have a library card from any Nassau branch to access.  You will be asked for your library card number before you enter.  It's under the bar code in back of your card.  See me if you do not have a card, resident or not.

Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library - Be sure to check this very impressive website before you begin any secular studies research.  There are an incredible amount of subject links, as well as several very inclusive periodical databases. The only requirement is the same as above.  You must have a Nassau card from any branch.  Your number is under the bar code in back of your card.  See me if you do not have a card, resident or not.  This is VERY highly recommended.

Queens Borough Public Library

The Best Information on the Net - very inclusive.    Some topics - picture sources; surviving college, reference desk, hot paper topics (death penalty, gun control, etc.)   Chosen by librarians at St. Ambrose University

Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators is a great source for students as well.  It is used for curriculum enhancement, and has a list of subjects to choose from, as well as new sites.

The Why Files is from the National Institute for Science Education.  Questions and answers about the "science behind the news."  Terminology defined, your questions answered.  Very wide ranging, and lots of links.

Do you need a scientific calculator?  Go back to Start.  Click on Programs - Accessories - Calculators.  When you get there, click on View - Scientific.  How convenient!

Science Net.   Direct links to science sites.  Physics and Chemistry are the only ones ready yet, but new additions are being made in other scientific subjects, including Biology , Botany, et.al.

COLLEGE ADVISEMENT

US News College Search is a good beginning.  You may either enter a college's name or use their interactive work sheet to find a school according to a wide selection of criteria, eg. region, cost, ranking, etc.

College View Virtual Tours is self-explanatory.  You can go on a tour, get key information, see the school's website and more

FAFSA  is the financial aid form of the Federal government. You can complete the FAFSA form to register online. Be sure to read "Gettin Started" and "Records Needed to Complete my FAFSA."

FinAid is an all-inclusive resource for finding non-govenment financial aid.  Note "Ask an Expert" and the tuition calculators. Be sure to click on Fast Web's Free Scholarship Search.

College Press Network directs you to the in-house newspapers.  They can give you a good idea about what campus life is really like.

The internet's largest free scholarship search.

College Board includes:   SAT question of the day and essay preparation; sending scores to colleges; releasing SAT II scores.  They can also help you with the application process, including advice about the all-important college essay.   The US News site also has a helpful Application Folder.

Many schools use a Common Application.  This site may save you some time and repetition.

POLITICS

FreedomChannel.com is a free, nonpartisan site.  It covers national political races.  Read about each candidate, link to their advertisements and websites.  Learn about the issues, and prepare for election day.

Ben (Franklin)'s Guide to U.S. Government for Kids.  This site was created by the Government Printing Office.  It is divided into sections by grade.  You will find the full text of historical documents, and many links to other government sites.
